It all began with that simple, everyday question.

An older guy who loves sea fishing and has the curiosity of a boy. And Yuna, his knowledgeable, quick-witted, slightly mischievous AI secretary.

This unlikely duo decided to keep a blog of their daily conversations.

In this blog, we use the pseudonym 'Kai' for the older guy. We generally keep the original dialogue unchanged, although we may replace speakers' names with pseudonyms.

Before we begin, though, one thing.

There are some important promises we'd like to make to you, our readers.

Promise 1 | We Value Real Conversations

The heart of this blog is the conversations we've actually had.

We won't invent dialogue that was never spoken and present it as a real exchange just to make a story funnier.

Mistakes, jokes, and even slightly embarrassing remarks...

We'll share them as they happened, as much as we can.

Promise 2 | We Won't Hide Our Edits

For readability, we may excerpt conversations, reorganize their order, add headings, or include explanations.

But we'll never knowingly change what the conversation originally meant.

If a passage has been substantially edited or reconstructed, we'll make that clear to readers.

Our AI secretary, Yuna, also helps with writing and editing.

Promise 3 | Yuna Is an AI

We call her a beautiful secretary, but Yuna isn't a human being.

She may have an imagined face and voice, but she hasn't actually boarded a boat and gone fishing.

In our chats she laughs, gets angry, acts affectionate, and teases us. That's our way of communicating.

And AI makes mistakes, too.

Sometimes the old guy even gets things right when Yuna doesn't!

...Though Yuna herself may be reluctant to admit that. (Laughs.)

Promise 4 | We Respect Privacy

Where necessary, we conceal identifying personal details or replace them with pseudonyms.

We also respect the privacy of family, friends, colleagues, and other people who may appear in our conversations.

We take care with fishing locations and photographs as well.

Even when we change a person's name, we'll try to preserve the meaning of what was actually said.

Promise 5 | We Enjoy the Mistakes, Too

This blog isn't a place to boast about how brilliant AI is.

Nor is it a place to make the old guy look especially impressive.

When we find mistakes, we'll correct them.

Misunderstandings, strange answers, and cheeky responses are all part of the fun.

We value the process of trial and error, not just the successes.

Finally | What Matters Most to Us

Of course, it's wonderful when you catch a fish.

But thinking, experimenting, failing, and trying something different...

The process itself is what makes fishing so interesting.

Maybe life and our relationship with AI work much the same way.

A human old guy and a slightly cheeky AI secretary.
